Mes recherches portent sur l'intermédialité et la politique de l’esthétique en littérature, en art visuel et en musique. Je m’intéresse surtout à la formation et la restructuration des espaces culturels-politiques – le théâtre, la presse, le musée – d’après les notions de la représentation, de l’histoire, de l’émancipation, de la souveraineté et de la partialité. À partir d’une approche transdisciplinaire, mes projets tissent des liens entre les sciences humaines et sociales et la bioéthique afin d’analyser les interactions entre l’art et la politique. Mes domaines d’intérêt comprennent : les théories et les pratiques de l’intermédialité; la philosophie de Jacques Rancière; la diplomatie culturelle de l’entre-deux-guerres; l’art, la musique, et la littérature des époques modernes et modernistes; l’histoire de l’opéra. Avant de rejoindre l'Université de Montréal en 2019, j’étais Professeure adjointe à l'Université de Victoria.

My research focuses on intermedial studies and the politics of aesthetics in literature, visual art, and music. I am particularly interested in the creation and reform of cultural-political spaces – such as the theatre, the public press, and the museum – and how these spaces are influenced by notions of representation, history, emancipation, sovereignty, and partisanship. Prioritizing a multidisciplinary approach, my projects span the human and social sciences as well as bioethics and seek to understand how and why art and politics collide. Special areas of interest include: theories and practices of intermediality; the philosophy of Jacques Rancière; interwar cultural diplomacy; early modern and modernist art, music, and literature; opera studies. Before joining the University of Montreal in 2019, I was Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria.

Membre du comité scientifique du Centre de recherche sur l'intermédialité sur les arts, les lettres et les techniques, Philippe Despoix y dirige le projet "Le réseau de la bibliothèque Warburg / The Warburg Library Network".

Dix-huitièmiste, il s'est également 'intéressé aux voyages scientifiques européens de l'époque des Lumières et, dans le cadre du groupe de recherche « Gestes admirables », au rôle et à la diffusion de la gravure.

Spécialiste de la pensée germanique du XXe siècle, il est membre du Centre canadien d'études allemandes et européennes dont il codirige la collection aux Presses de l'Université de Montréal. Il est aussi partie prenante de l'école doctorale transatlantique germano-canadienne “Diversity: Mediating Difference in Transcultural Space”.

Ancien directeur de la revue Intermédialités / Intermediality ses recherches actuelles portent sur la fonction des médias dans les processus mémoriels et interculturels. Il prépare un ouvrage qui envisage le rapport entre photographie, anthropologie et histoire dans une perspective intermédiale.

Heike Härting is Associate professor of English. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Victoria and joined the department in August 2003. She is the co-founder and co-director of the Research Centre on Planetary Cultural and Literary Studies at the Université de Montréal (Centre de recherche des études littéraires et culturelles sur la planétarité, CELCP), the first Centre of its kind in Canada. Trained in postcolonial and contemporary Canadian studies, her research concentrates on postcolonial literatures and theories, narratives of global violence and planetary health in African and Canadian literatures. Her current research projects examine the ways in which decolonial writing and bioart address, shift, and reconfigure hegemonic and colonially received discourses of the Anthropocene, of planetary geopolitical and geological transformations, and of planetary health (human and more-than-human).

Among others, she has published various articles, a co-edited special issue on "Narrative Violence: Africa and the Middle East" of Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East (with Nouri Gana, 2008), a special issue on peacekeeping narratives and security of the University of Toronto Quarterly (with Smaro Kamboureli,2009), a co-edited special issue of Transtext(e)s Transcultures on “Cinematic Im/mobilities in the Planetary Now” (with Johannes Riquet, 2023), and a book on Planetary Health Humanities and Pandemics (with Heather Meek, Routledge, 2024).  She is the lead investigator of the multidisciplinary research team Les études culturelles et littéraires sur la planétarité: Pratiques, épistémologies, et pédagogies transformatrices/ Cultural and Literary Planetary Studies: Practice, Epistemologies, and Transformative Pedagogies (funded by the Québec government, FRQSC Soutien aux équipes de recherche, 2020-2025). She is also the principal investigator of "Viral Conjunctures: Pandemics and Planetary Health Narratives." (2023-2027), a research project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She is also a co-investigator and member of several research teams working on the creative intersections of care, well-being, and narrative. Her research is closely related to her pedagogical practice, which fosters collaborative, decolonial, intersectional, and reparative approaches to knowledge production and dissemination. She is involved in a number of pedagogical and communal initiatives (e.g., with the CÉGEP Vieux Montréal) and supervises various doctoral and MA projects related to contemporary literary and cultural planetary studies, the health humanities, and postcolonial and Canadian literatures.
