Hommage à Francesca Saint-Juste

It is with great sadness that students, professors, and administrative staff in the Department of Literatures and Languages of the World announce the passing of Franceska Saint-Juste on May 13, 2020, at the age of 27.

Franceska completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in English Studies in our department. She was admired by her professors and known for her ebullience, her charisma, her radiant smile, her social awareness, and her deep convictions. Franceska worked very hard at whatever she did, was deeply devoted to learning, and was particularly passionate about Caribbean, African-American, and women’s literature. She had plans to become a teacher and was pursuing a degree in education at McGill University when she fell ill.

Students remember Franceska as a friendly and vivacious young woman who shared her passions with them and was not afraid to stand for what she believed in. Her laughter filled a room and made everyone feel happy to be in her proximity. A true friend, Franceska was kind, caring, and quick to offer support and reassurance. She will live on in the hearts of students and friends as the funny, smart, and charismatic person that she was. She will be greatly missed.
