Job outlook

With a graduate degree, you can teach at the pre-university and university levels. As an expert in languages and literature, plenty of university positions will be open to you in North America and around the world.

Many graduates go on to careers in journalism, advertising, translation or the international public service.

Undegraduate programs

Would you like to know...

  • How writers from different traditions and times have addressed the issues of collective identity and their place in the world?
  • How literature and philosophy have influenced each other?
  • How immigration has transformed Quebec society and its cultural landscape?
  • The effects on identity, alterity ("otherness" and the way it is represented) and the political evolution of communities?

For the answers to all these questions and many others, choose a program in comparative literature.

Job outlook

A degree in comparative literature opens doors to many sectors and organizations:

  • Radio, television and other media
  • Government departments
  • Organizations in the fields of culture, immigration, ethnocultural relations and external affairs

If you hold a degree in film studies and comparative literature, you may also find a job with cultural organizations (National Film Board of Canada, Cinémathèque québécoise, etc.) or in the multimedia industry.

And there’s more! With complementary undergraduate or graduate studies, you can choose a career in teaching, research, journalism or translation.
